ConCat is a Website Content Inventory System to store website data, this will enable the developer to make easy decisions during regular updates or a redesign and facilitates the correct action to be taken.

Aim

The aim of the system is to reduce the manual work in the process of gathering the data from a website, this will be completed by the system gathering this information. This will aid in the day to day maintenance of the site and one off redesigns. The system will present the considerable amount of data in an informative way which will aid the developer.

Features of ConCat

Features of the current version of ConCat include:

  • The system will collect all necessary data from a website including page titles, subtitles, keywords links and images.
  • It will display website data and allow the user to manipulate the data to best suit their needs.
  • Users can view a diagram of the site structure.
  • Determine if JavaScript, CSS or a database connection is on each page.
  • Re-index the whole site.
  • The system will read site XML tags embedded into a page.
  • Create archive´s of the site.
  • Broken link checker.
  • Reporting functionality.
  • User accounts and admin.

Technologies

A variety of technologies are used, including Oracle to house the database and PHP, HTML and CSS to create the front end system.

Future Developments

The system has the capacity to effortlessly allow for future updates and new requirements, for example, features to edit the web pages directly through the system, cataloguing necessary updates and highlighting pages which need attention.
